Friday 28th March 2008

After the success of the Zero X the company has announced it intends to build a road version. Sales of the Zero X off-road bike (which debuted last year with an impressive spec for a battery-powered dirtbike), went so well that the company are now going to build a street-legal version.

The Zero X is capable of a 40-mile range after two-hours being plugged into the mains and last year the bike was selling for just under £3,500 with the company selling all the stock they could build.

Zero Motorcycles is rumoured to be looking for enough funding to undergo expansion ... which will include a road bike. The new Zero S on-road electric motorcycle that the company is currently rolling out will come complete with everything needed to register it on the street, including lights and indicators, and is expected to be available this summer.

According to Zero Motorcycles the battery unit used on the new bike contains 168 individual lithium ion cells and is expected to endure six years of hard riding.
